Ryoji Matsuoka Flamenco Guitar (1978) Specifications:

  • Materials:  Spruce Soundboard, Cypress back and sides, Spanish Cedar neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, Scale 650mm.
  • Compensation: 1st String 650.5mm, 6th string 650.5mm
  • Nut Width: 53mm
  • String Spread: At nut 43mm, At bridge 58mm
  • Action Settings: At 1'st fret 0.7mm for 1'st string and 0.6mm stor 6'th string.  At 12'th fret 2.2mm for 1'st string and 3mm for 6'th string.
  • Structural
    • Soundboard fan strutting and harmonic bars - all good
    • Dome of the top - Good but needs humidification, show signs of very dryness.  Slight indentation in front of soundhole not uncommon for flamenco guitars.  Currently being humidified at RH of 50%.
    • Back braces - All good
    • Dome of the back - Perfect
    • Neck joint - All Good
    • Scarf Joint - All Good
    • Cracks in the top - None
    • Cracks in back - None
    • Cracks in the side - None
    • Binding and purfling - All good
    • Fingerboard - All good, but shows indent marks at 1'st, 2nd and 3rd fret positions.
    • Frets - All good - No wear
    • Frets - All good, no wear
    • Nut - Bone, all good but not glued
    • Saddle - Bone, all good and stable.
    • Bridge - Indian Rosewood, tie block and string holes all good, glue joint perfect.
  • Wear and tear
    • Neck - none
    • Soundboard - No wear, 4 mintute dings size of pencil point, near flawless, has transparent tap plate.
    • Sides - no wear, near flawless
    • Back - no wear, near flawless.
    • Head - Face of head flawless
    • French Polish - Very Good, some shrinking into grain visible.
  • Tuning Machines
    • Function ok, cheap replacement set was fitted.
  • Acoustics
    • Intonation slightly shard at 12'th on G-String only.
    • Sound of open strings - clear, nut grooves perfect.
    • Buzzes - None
    • All notes ring well, no wolf tones
  • General
    • This guitar has been well taken care off and is in very good condition.  We can strongly recommend this guitar to the potential buyer.  Action perfect for Flamenco style.
